An indie developer commissioned me to create some ‘epic synthwave’ style music, and I created this. That game ended up never releasing but the track ended up being very good. It was composed back in 2019. When creating this piece I decided to move away from tonality by not using any key signature, simply using the note E as my ‘home’.

This piece is dedicated to MattC. An incredible pianist and fellow composer. Its much more of a jazzy piece than any other of my creations and it marks a turning point in my music. During my time composing April, I was learning compositional techniques from a professional. Since then I have used the techniques I learned in my music and this piece is the first to –consciously– employ them.

Two things make this piece interesting. First, the only kind of chord change I use are mediants (and chromatic mediants). And secondly, the melody line came from the chords themselves. The piece uses four instruments, an epiano, two synths, and a drum kit. The epiano is the main instrument with the synth following the melody and a synth following the bass line. the drums giving the piece a little boost. I composed 33 for a special person in my life and it is my favorite piece.
